Thanks for helping to make TumblBee better! ❤️
Why Markdown and HTML?
Both Markdown and HTML are open file formats with broad compatibility and a syntax that’s easy to learn and implement. I’ve chosen to support open standards like these rather than build for proprietary platforms, which silo their users into walled gardens and prey on them by way of advertising surveillance and deceptive patterns.
Open standards and diverse online ecosystems are essential to building and maintaining a free, expressive internet and an inclusive online culture. Export your content, then do what you like with it, forever. Your creativity belongs to you, not to the sites you share it with.
Why can’t I export all of my posts with TumblBee? How does TumblBee define “original posts”?
Among other privacy and visibility options, Tumblr offers users the ability to make their blogs accessible to logged-in users only. When this option is enabled, visitors attempting to access any content on a user’s blog are prompted to log in before viewing. Because exported posts are divorced from their original platform context, and out of respect for users who may not wish to have their content viewed off-platform, I’ve opted to keep TumblBee’s focus on exporting your own original posts and pages.
TumblBee looks at the following criteria when determining whether a post should be exported.
- If the post is not a reblog, it will be exported.
- If the post is a reblog, TumblBee will check the first post in the chain. If the original poster is the same as the blog being exported, the post will be exported.
Will you add support for [x] format?
I’ve intentionally chosen to support open standards like Markdown and HTML for TumblBee exports, rather than driving more traffic into walled gardens. That said, if there’s a platform or format that you think is a good fit, I’d love to hear about it! Let me know over on itch.io, or drop me an email at ice-sprite-imitate [at] duck.com.
Who are you?
Hi! I’m Cari (she/they)! 👋
I’m a freelance UX designer and full-stack dev who enjoys building cool stuff in their spare time. When I’m not pushing pixels or writing code, you might find me tinkering with my home lab, tending to the veggie garden, or napping in front of the TV. 💤
If you enjoy using TumblBee and want to see more things like it, you can leave me a tip over on Ko-fi. Thanks for your support!
